About Us:

EJAL Health Services has many years of experience in the substance abuse treatment field; we began operations in September 1996 at our current location. The clinic is a private outpatient methadone maintenance program that treats opiate-based addictions. This program accepts Maryland State Medical Assistance Insurance, and will assist the patient in submitting the paperwork for Commercial Insurance claims. The clinic provides services that include daily dosing of methadone and individual counseling sessions.

The target population served is adults from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City and surrounding counties. The goal of this program is to assist patients with overcoming the physiological and psychological aspects of their addiction and to support their recovery efforts by helping them to:

• Become free of their addiction(s)

• Develop positive and productive lifestyles

• Reintegrate back into the community

• Enhance their overall quality of life

This program is also committed to providing an array of services/referrals to address the individual needs of patients served and their families.

The clinic’s philosophy is based on the understanding that opiate dependence is a primary disorder that can be successfully treated with medication and supportive services. Chemical dependence, and specifically opiate dependence, is defined as a bio-psychosocial disorder, characterized by the compulsive use of mood-altering substances, and frequently accompanied by destructive behaviors which affect both the chemically dependent individual and their significant others.

The clinic recognizes the balance between the expectations of patients, staff and the community to provide competent services and to maintain a safe, structured, clinical environment that induces the best possible results for every stakeholder.

The clinic protects patient identifying information in accordance with state and federal laws. Patients are treated with courtesy and respect and are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible and respectful manner.

The prospective patient needs a State of Maryland Driver's License or age of majority identification card from the Motor Vehicle Administration with a current address. Intake processing will take approximately three hours, including required paperwork and a short physical examination. Call the clinic to inquire about the initial admission process, weekly fees and to make an intake appointment.

The clinic strives to respond to patient suggestions as well as those suggestions originating from family members. The staff is also available, with the patient’s consent, to respond to any concerns of the patient’s family.

The clinic is a maintenance program, not a short-term dose tapering or “detox” program. Methadone is a synthetic, narcotic drug that blocks the effects of opiate drugs. When administered properly, methadone will not cause euphoria or sedation. Doses are medically prescribed, according to the needs of the patient. The intent is to assist the patient with reducing any withdrawal symptoms and/or cravings for continued opiate use. Our staff physicians, nurses and counselors are experienced, trained and knowledgeable in the field of treating opiate-based addictions. Our staff is available to answer any questions or concern pertaining to the treatment process. Additionally, a nurse is on call 24 hours a day to address any emergencies.
